From Corporate Communications --

How It Works

  • SkyWest will provide up to $27,500 in tuition reimbursement and bonuses to pilots transitioning from Rotor to SkyWest.
  • Complete an application at skywest.com/RTP for the SkyWest Pilot Pathway Program.
  • Within a week, a SkyWest pilot hiring specialist will reach out to you. From there you will need to provide documentation for what flight school you are at, the time expected to complete the training and schedule an interview.
  • After successfully completing a First Officer interview, you will receive your $20,000 in tuition reimbursement and have a contracted offer of employment. After transition training, you will have a final clearance check with SkyWest Airlines.
  • A two  year employment contract with SkyWest is part of the required paperwork.
  • Finally, you will join the next available SkyWest training class that fits into your schedule and begin your career as a SkyWest pilot. The $7,500 bonus will be paid out after successful completion of IOE.

Class Schedule

  • The schedule is up to you and the flight school of your choice. $20,000 of tuition reimbursement will only be made available if you are within 4 months of completing your fixed-wing training.
  • SkyWest Airlines runs four classes each month for pilots with little to no wait time necessary. SkyWest also provides CTP.

Program Cost

  • Program costs are unique to each individual based on their experience and selected flight school. SkyWeset offers $20,000 to help with the expenses of completing the FAA ratings and required flight time and an additional bonus of $7,500 for military pilots at the end of IOE.

Learn more and apply at skywest.com/RTP.

With regards to the tuition reimbursement payment of $20K, I found out yesterday that you have to send SkyWest an enrollment certificate from a flight school, they do a background check on the school, then they send you the payment. So for those individuals looking to time build in your own plane or with a friend's plane, you'll have to find a work around. I'm guessing you could enroll at a school get the enrollment certificate and the cash, and then cancel with that school...?

All I did was send them an email with the dues I paid at my flying club, I had the $20,000 in my bank account 5 days later... it was a very easy process.

I just sent them a receipt for renting the plane and had money 2 days later, at a part 61.  As long as you show some expense, even a receipt to rent the plane from a friend, you should be fine.

That's the issue I"m going to be running into though, I don't actually have to pay for a plane because I have a family friend that is lending me his plane and I just have to pay for gas, so I don't have any rental receipts to give them. I may just have to go rent something for a couple hours to have something to show them...?

I wonder if your family friend could put his plane under an LLC and then bill you for the gas? I would run that by SkyWest.

Has anyone interviewed with Sky West since the new changes to the contract? I am specifically interested if they are saying anything about more than 20K towards training (regarding the whole "up to 44K" wording in the new change).  I see some of the pages updated with the new FO hourly wages, but nothing of the "Bonus or RTP"...

Yes, the slide show has been updated to reflect the new numbers and my interview team (2xCA) went over the $$$ as they both were about to see the change on their next pay checks. I don't specifically remember any figures posted about RTP that are different from the $27500 tuition reimbursement/mil pilot list on the site. I was focused on the $7500 bonus and timelines.

I am sure it will be worth the $160 to go to a school and do a check out with them in their aircraft to get the 20k. You may not even ever have to fly with the school, just fill out the necessary papers to rent the plane so you are at least "enrolled." Worth a shot! Best luck.

This needs to be updated with new pay scales. First year FO is $45 an hour. Bonuses are also not mentioned and start at 6 months and continue building until 2 years including performance, financial, and profit sharing. When I get my first full month of pay at the end of this month I'll do a write-up on first year FO pay.

I just finished talking with a SkyWest recruiter and (currently) the $20k tuition assistance is only available through one of their partner schools.

I just recieved my SkyWest tuition assistance bonus a couple of weeks ago, and you do NOT have to be flying with one of their partner schools. I only had to show "proof of enrollment at any flight school". That along with a contract document, banking document, and W9, and the money was direct deposited 3 days later...
